In the garment designs, various trims are attached and joined to garments. Further to finish and pack the garment we need to attach several accessories to individual garments. In this context let’s explore the different types of trims and accessories used in ready-made garments.

Remember this is a flat list of trims and accessories covering a wide range of garment items. Some trims are common for various garments and some trims are used in specific apparel products. In the garment manufacturing and apparel sourcing business, apparel merchandisers prepare the list of trims and accessories.
Trims are used to complete a garment, whereas accessories are used to decorate garments. Trims are attached to the fabric by sewing, whereas accessories make the cloth more attractive.
1. List of Various Trims Used in Garments
Stitching threads: Stitching threads are used for sewing garment panels together using a sewing machine. Threads are used for attaching labels, buttons, and other trim to the garment. Sewing threads are available in the following types - Monofilament Thread, Multifilament Thread, textured thread, and core spun thread.
Button: Buttons are a functional trim used for fastening and decorative purposes. For example, buttons are attached to woven shirts, blouses, and coats on the front opening. Buttons are available in various sizes and made of different materials. Mostly used buttons are plastic buttons.
Lining: Lining is a fabric material normally used for the inner layer in some garments. Like jackets and blazers need lining material. For high fashion gowns and dresses lining fabric is a commonly used item.
Interlining: Interlining is used to bond two layers of fabric. For example, making shirt collars and cuffs. Interlining helps in stiffening the garment parts.
Laces: - Lace is attached to ladies' and girls' clothes for decorating purposes. Even lace can be part of the main garment. Laces can be used in making ladies' tops and blouses.
Braid: Braids are made of twisting yarns and fabric stripes. Used for decorating purposes in garments.
Elastic: Elastics are normally used in the waistband of trousers, leggings, and shorts. Elastic threads are used for forming gathering (smocking) in garment components.
Label: Different types of labels are available as per their applications. Common labels are main labels (brand labels), garment size labels, and wash care labels.

Zipper: Zippers are one kind of closure item. Zippers are used in pants and trousers for closing the front opening. Zippers are also used in back opening closures in ladies' tops.
Mobilon tape (transparent tape): Normally used in shoulder seam in t-shirts and other apparel items.
Stopper: Normally used in thread or dori lock stopper.
Motif: A motif is a small design and cut-out of design attached to the garment to give a designer look.
Shoulder pad: Used in making jackets and blazers to give fullness in the shoulder area.
Rivet: A fastening material. Use in jeans pants, casual shirts, and hoodies.
Twill tape: Twill tapes are used as decorative materials. These tapes are made of cotton yarns and available in various width and selected based on the application in the garments. Normally found in back neck finishing, and side vent finishing of the polo shirts. Twill tapes are used as waistband lace.
Velcro tape: Velcro is a trim used for fastening. Commonly used in jackets at side seam and cuff closing. Velcro works in a combination of two parts - the male and female parts.
Pom pom: A pom pom is a fluffy ball of thread, yarn, or fabric that is held together in the center by another piece of thread, yarn, or fabric. These pom poms are then woven into a piece of stabilizing tape, gimp trim, or braid.
Ribbon: Ribbons are tapes used in garments for decorating purposes.
Webbing: Webbing tape is a flat woven tape with a variety of functions in sewing. It is used as straps for bags, and enforcing material in Jackets, and jute webbings are usually used for decorative purposes and for binding edges. It is also used as insulation in a wide range of industrial applications. It comes in a range of various widths and thicknesses and in plain or self-adhesive backing.
2. List of Accessories Used in Garments
Accessories are used in garment finishing and packing. See the list of commonly used accessories in garments. These materials are mainly packaging materials.
Hanger: Hangers are used for packing garments for the design that are not folded. For kids' apparel, the hangers are part of packing.
Hangtag: Hang stages are made of paper or plastic. These tags are used to attach to the garment before packing. The tag contains various information about the garment material. The price sticker and SKU details are stuck on the hang tag.
Tissue paper: Used for folding the individual garment. The Tissue paper gives little stiffness in the folding.
Pin/Clip: Pins and clips are used in packaging.
